about

When my friend Annie passed away a few weeks ago, I and some of her friends gathered together to record this. It was (and still is) a sad time for us all but I think that the act of making this was helpful to each of us in coming to terms with our grief.

The words and melody come from an ancient Greek tombstone. It is the oldest known complete musical work. Here's a link with more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seikilos_epitaph

While you live, shine / Seek no trouble or sorrow at all
For we are here just a short while / And time will always demand its toll

about

Nathaniel Johnstone Seattle, Washington

Multi-instrumentalist Nathaniel Johnstone (violin, viola, banjo, mandolin, and guitar) LOVES to play music with his many musical friends. He's played with many bands and has as yet been unable to settle down with one instrument or musical genre for too long.

Each album is different but there are enough through-lines that you can get a sense of where he's been.
